"Singapore is so small, THESE people are messing up the place!"
"THESE" people, they refer to foreigners from China, Bangladesh and India.... (Interestingly, they never refer to Americans, British, Australians... people from "attas" (Malay for UP: high class) countries)
Personally, i don't like it when my friends discriminate certain groups because they are from certain countries. Probably because i, myself was not a native... i was born in Malaysia, but raised in Singapore. I understand that it's only natural that people want to live in a better environment.
Singaporeans will not be here if their ancestors have not migrate from your home country to here... and today, many Singaporeans migrates to other "attas" countries.. I wonder what Angmos are saying behind our backs when we live in their country... "THESE people...."
I understand that the Government has a major plan of flooding this tiny island with more foreign talents due to some some economy mambo jumbo i don't understand.. ALL about money.. and not enough Singaporeans to work..
Too low-class, labour intensive jobs, we don't want to do... and too high-class jobs, we can't make it. So we need foreign talents.
I really have no issues with more foreigners in this country, to compete with the locals for jobs.. after all, this is a meritocratic society eh, "If you can do the job, you do it!" (I'm still quite idealistic/naive). So, locals just have to buck up more... our children need to study MORE!, get SMARTER! to compete with MORE people to make it in this society. (Fight for your survival!! Be more Kiasu).. Phew.. feeling stressed already.
I have no issue with more people in this island, as long as the Government can be a little more sensitive, to understand the society changes...i personally feel there is a slight tear/gap/crack in the society... between LOCALS and THEM (foreigners).. there are resentment happening...can be a little overwhelming when you see a certain group taking on jobs in food courts, cleaners, universities professors, students.. Are they taking over us? I guess it's not easy to balance all that... like warm water pouring into a pot of lukewarm (yes, LUKEWARM) water.. SOMETHING gonna change..
I remind myself "It's oooook... it's oooook... this is the new world... it's ooook"
You know what i am thinking about this whole... mixed up, migrating, world?
In my mind, it's like the planet world of Kamino in Starwars. Remember that planet where the Republic Armies was cloned?
From the Tipoca City, the Prime Minister rules (We also have a Prime Minister).. The ocean (Countries around Singapore) swelled and covered the land masses due to global warming (world economy), and the native Kaminoans are forced to adapt by turning to genetic sciences (Life sciences?) to counteract the hardship of the environmental chaos... never self-sufficient, they trade advance cloning knowledge (in policy, life sciences, how to run government?) in exchange for vital raw materials. (Kamino )
Only by partnership with the Galactic Republic can the planet be brought to the public spotlight.. BUT in the end, i think the planet didn't end well. (it was oppressed by the Empire)
Singapore always wanted be a Hub, for everything... Trades, Communications, Medical, Education etc.. a Cosmopolitan.
Think of Coruscant.. the Giant City that cover the planet in the heart of the galaxy.. That is what has been in my mind for a long time. This is what i am trying to express out... We need to see the world differently...
There will no longer be Countries and .. Nations... it's too.. Web 1.0.. think of Communities and Groups.... Don't think of your HOME as a ... physical land mass.. because at the end of this transition there will not be any clear distinctions..
A singular world... a huge city!!
It's a fearful thought, i know..., we are no longer inside a Greenhouse.. My generation need to grasp that and change.. I think we need that courage to have the traveller mentality..
Now, this is another thought... "Do i want to stay here, in a environment where certain society values have not catch up to raise my future family?" In this new world, it's not just passing exams, securing a job, buying a house, get married, work till you die. (Bee movie) Because if you can see that you can expand across physical boundaries of land masses, the WORLD is the limit! - That is the loyalty issue, well, but i am not "talented" enough to be retained.
Once the whole world has become ONE giant city - Coruscant, then there is only the final frontier to explore!
Change your mindset, everything is fluid... nothing is permanent.. There is no more ... COUNTRY per say.. only Ideas...
