# 20210809 Some thoughts about Work Culture
This is probably above my pay grade and my area of responsibilities. I was watching the evening news about the current Delta variant and how the case numbers are rising again. Businesses constantly having to adjust to the changes.
I am thinking how COVID has changed work culture. Many people are just trying to brace and wait out the pandemic. drawing from their reserves (resources whether it's financial, psychological or spiritual deposits) to last the storm.
I think many people just want to return to the same old same old like before. Management may want people to just return to the office, and then things will be back to usual. Like the good old days.
I think the more realistic and pragmatic way is to just accept the change, and adapt and change for the post-covid world.
## impact of covid at work
I think there are difference degree of impact, for the married people, they have other commitment and considerations outside of work. Their responsibilities and attentions goes to the family and children. Thus i think they don't feel the impact as much.
For the single, and especially new to the work force... they find it more harder to adapt perhaps.
Work relations has reduced. Lesser sense of community. Perhaps even reduced sense of belonging, because there is now lesser change to interact and be together.
## Suggestions
Knowledge on how to work, how to manage cases. Lesser change to bounce of ideas, and talk about problem informally. They may hold on to assumptions, and have to solve problem themselves. They don't know who to reach out to, to talk to. They go to their RO, who may or may not be able to support as much.
### Informal support network
Informal support network/group or programme to just come together and talk about what they have been doing, and to build #resilience, sense of community. Virtually. Building community online.
#### This may perhaps build sense of belonging
When people feel supported, and they are not facing the challenges alone. They are less likely to want to leave.
### what is the Organisational culture?
What is it in the first place? what value do we want to pass on? How to ensure that those values are passed on? Not just value about patient care, what are the values for staff?
#### Do no harm
First do it for staff, when staff are taken care of, they will then have what it is require to give to the patients.
### training and equipping
Continue sharing and passing on knowledge, that are relevant to the work, as in the position of helper, assumptions of helper, etc.
### Adjust processes and how work are done for a post-covid world
What we are doing now. Using technology. How to adjust to a more distributed work force.
how to recreate opportunities to have informal interactions that are more serendipity.
Any virtual office space? because now we can't see people expression, or hear conversations.. it's harder for us to know.
- Daily check in? What we are planning to do today?
- Encourage people to share what they have been reading, thinking, doing? What challenges i have been facing?
But, why am i doing this? Not even my problem.
