# Blog Post: Overcoming the "Not Enough" Culture
Posted on [Be aware of the “Not ___ Enough” belief – Moses (wordpress.com)](https://moseshng.wordpress.com/2023/04/07/be-aware-of-the-not-___-enough-belief/)
## Hello there!
I recently revisited my notes from Brené Brown's book "Daring Greatly" [[Daring Greatly How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead]]
(which I highly recommend), which reminded me of the concept of scarcity culture. This mindset, which often leaves us feeling like we never have enough, affects many of us and can be problematic.
## Understanding Scarcity Culture
Scarcity culture is a mindset that convinces us we lack time, money, love, or success. We are constantly bombarded with messages urging us to have more, do more, and be more. As a result, we may feel perpetually inadequate.
## The "Never Enough" Dilemma
Upon reflection, recently, I have the following "not enough" thoughts:
- not sleeping enough
- not training enough
- Not training (correctly) enough
- Not taking enough protein
- Not resting enough
- not productive enough,
- Not focusing or reading enough, not being efficient enough…
- Not eating healthily or cooking enough
- not socialising enough
- Not confident enough!
- Not humble enough..
(It's contradicting, how can I do so many things simultaneously?)
The "never enough" dilemma occurs when we feel that we aren't good enough or that we lack in some way. Having this view can lead to anxiety and depression, which are harmful to everyone. When we only concentrate on our deficiencies and what we need to obtain, we fail to appreciate what we already have.
## Conquering Scarcity Culture
To overcome scarcity culture, we must change our mindset. (Take a moment to consider where the shame, the need to compare with others, originates.) We should start focusing on what we possess rather than what we lack. Learning to appreciate and celebrate our achievements, regardless of their size is crucial. Additionally, we must understand that we don't need to have or do everything to experience happiness and fulfillment.
## Final Thoughts
Revisiting my notes from "Daring Greatly" has emphasised overcoming scarcity culture. It's easy to become trapped in the "never enough" dilemma, but it's crucial to realise that this mindset can damage our mental health and overall well-being. By concentrating on what we have and learning to appreciate our achievements, we can lead a more fulfilling life.
Until next time, take care!
Take a deep breath.
You are ENOUGH.
