[[DP - Sleep]] [[Mania]] [[Bipolar Disorder]] Reduced need for sleep often precedes manic episodes. For example, one study defined “insomnia” as **<6 hours** sleep in bipolar patients; periods of combined <6h sleep with elevated self-reported mood/activity strongly signaled incipient mania. Sleep duration was calculated based on daily reports of bedtime and wake-up time. Insomnia was defined as total sleep duration  <  360 min. In addition, a broader definition of mania was made by combining increased mood (> 0.5), increased activity (> 0) and decreased sleep (< 360 min.). - https://journalbipolardisorders.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s40345-021-00243-3#:~:text=Sleep%20duration%20was%20calculated%20based,360%C2%A0min
