# Steps to work with Parts?
Being a parent to ourselves, we become secure attachment figures to Parts. [[Attachment Theory]]
1. Connect with Parts that lash out; who are the protectors/Parts?

2. What Parts may stop us from getting close to even knowing? (Protector)
3. Invite them and identify the Parts in me.
4. Ask permission from protectors before approaching.
5. Invite the protector to wait in another space (in another room) while you approach the Exile
When approaching the Exile
1. Build rapport, trust, validate.
2. What does the Part need before bringing them to a good place (real or imagined)
3. attend to the feelings, emotions
4. Gently ask what the Part needs to unload to Unburden? What are they carrying and holding on?
Invite the Protector to join us
1. Invite the protector to join us, to witness, what do they think about the Part( exile)
2. What would they want to do now? how do they feel?
